SITUATION SUMMARY
On April 22, 2025, a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, killed 26 people, including a Nepalese national. The Resistance Front (TRF), a group linked to the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack, sharply escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. The incident, which occurred during peak tourist season, sparked outrage across India and heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. In response to accusations of Pakistani involvement, Pakistan warned of a potential Indian military strike, citing "credible intelligence." Following this, ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) intensified. India accused Pakistan of supporting terrorism, while Islamabad denied involvement. The attack has significantly escalated tensions between the two nuclear-armed nations, prompting military alertness, cross-border ceasefire violations, and diplomatic retaliation.
