Global Summary
The US-Iran war reached a fragile turning point this week with a two-week ceasefire announced on 08 April, though both sides claim victory and direct talks in Islamabad have yet to begin. In Ukraine, an AFP analysis of ISW data confirmed Russia seized only 23 square kilometers in March 2026, its lowest monthly gain in over two and a half years, while President Putin announced a 32-hour Easter ceasefire effective 11 April. Washington's "Shield of the Americas" alliance lost credibility as Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia refused to participate, and Ecuador escalated trade hostilities with Colombia by announcing tariffs rising to 100% effective 01 May.
