Two shallow-focus earthquakes struck northern Venezuela on June 24, 2026: a magnitude 7.2 followed 39 seconds later by a magnitude 7.5, with epicenters approximately 160 kilometers west of Caracas in Yaracuy state. Acting President Delcy Rodríguez confirmed at least 164 deaths and 971 injuries as of early June 25, with the USGS assigning a 44% statistical probability that fatalities will exceed 10,000.
La Guaira state was declared a disaster zone. Simón Bolívar International Airport (CCS) is closed, metro and rail services are suspended, internet connectivity dropped to 59% nationally before partially recovering, and more than 30 aftershocks have been recorded. Organizations with personnel, travelers, or assets in the Caracas-La Guaira corridor face a multi-day to multi-week disruption environment combining structural hazard, infrastructure failure, communications degradation, and constrained medical capacity.
Risk Level: Critical | Recommended Posture: Suspend all nonessential travel to Venezuela. Initiate immediate personnel accountability for all staff in Caracas, La Guaira, Carabobo, Aragua, and Miranda states. Do not authorize reentry to any facility without structural engineering clearance.
