Executive Summary
This weekly report provides a comprehensive analysis of critical events, emerging threats, and significant developments across our global watchlist countries. Our Geopolitical & Security Analysis Teams continuously monitor and assess incidents affecting regional stability, security, and business operations.
The collapse of US-Iran ceasefire negotiations in Islamabad on April 13 and the activation of a US naval blockade of Iranian ports at 10:00 ET (14:00 GMT) define the week's dominant global risk. The blockade targets all vessels entering or leaving Iranian ports, threatening renewed hostilities around the Strait of Hormuz, through which approximately one-fifth of global oil transits. Brent crude surged over 7% above $100 per barrel.
In Europe, Peter Magyar's Tisza party defeated Viktor Orban's Fidesz in Hungary's April 12 election, winning 137 of 199 seats. The result removes an obstacle to EU consensus on Ukraine, though the full implications will unfold over months. The Orthodox Easter ceasefire on the Ukraine front expired without extension on April 12. Across Sub-Saharan Africa, the Sudan conflict enters its fourth year with 14 million displaced, and a Berlin ministerial conference on April 15 represents the most significant diplomatic push to date.
The collective picture is one of compounding pressure on the global operating environment, where energy disruption, great-power competition, and unresolved conflicts continue to overlap, and in some instances, reinforce each other.
